Nida is one of the most famous translation theorists in the modern world, and his functional equivalence theory takes an important position in the history of translation theory. In the field of linguistic study, there is no special translation theory used to guide the translation of legal texts. Since it was enacted, Maritime Code of the People's Republic of China, as a landmark in the history of maritime law, has played a key role in addressing maritime issues. The writer makes an analysis on Chinese-English translation of this code from lexical level and syntactic level based on functional equivalence theory. The ultimate aim of the functional equivalence theory is to make the source readers and the target readers achieve the equivalent understanding. In the studying process, large numbers of examples from this maritime code are listed to support the writer's view, and the analysis will be made after each point. The writer hopes the study can make contribution to maritime law translation.
