Jackson Pollock, leader of American abstract expressionism and Chinese-French Zhao Wuji, lyric abstract painter, are both the prominent figures of abstract arts in the 20th century. Owing to their different artistic styles and their respective abstract works with distinct western and eastern artistic features, they conquer millions of people who have passionate interest in art. Because their courses of life, ideology and culture, painting techniques are all different, though both of their arts belong to western oil painting, their aesthetic specialties lying in their abstract works are also different, one is full of power and sense of motion, the other is solemn and quiet. Based on the history of art and comparing studies, this thesis analyzes, compares and investigates Pollock and Zhao Wuji's abstract arts.Based on the previous studies and with the help of documentary records, artistic criticism, and painting works, this thesis systematically throws light on abstract artists Pollock and Zhao Wuji's legendary ways, ideological sources, painting languages and abstract beauties. Then, this thesis emphatically commentates on the abstract beauties of their works, and finally, it summarizes their distinct artistic features, and compares the similarities and innovations of their artistic styles.Pollock innovates upon the traditional ideas of western paintings in the light of his distinct performance. With a new artistic viewpoint and language, he creates a sort of abstract art with power and sense of motion; and in order to quest for freedom, he abandons all the art principles and techniques; he directly creates works through his subconsciousness, which implicates his freedom during his painting. This kind of abstract expressionism art style lays a basic foundation for American modern arts in the world art circles after World War II.Owing to the deep influence of the traditional Chinese philosophy and aesthetics and his familiarity with various kinds of painting styles, Mr. Zhao Wuji has formed a particular style of his own. In oil painting, he perfectly combines the western abstract painting with the traditional Chinese painting techniques, and meanwhile, he combines the light techniques and rhythmic variations of western abstract painting with the layout and rhythmic vitality of Chinese painting, from which he creates the abstract paintings that absorb the essence of both eastern and western arts and pursue vanities, agility, quietness and beauties of the eastern landscape painting. His painting style is highly esteemed and praised by the world art circles. With consummate skills and bright artistic characteristics, both Pollock and Zhao Wuji as the modern artists are highly praised in the world art circles. Their abstract arts with the typical western and eastern art styles give the descendent very beneficial enlightenment.
