As one of significant branches of English for Specific Purposes, Business English has been paid more and more attention. Business English writing, as one of foreign language proficiencies, requires learners to grasp textual, contextual and communicative knowledge. Thus, the aim of Business English writing is not only to improve students' basic writing proficiency, but also to cultivate their Business idea so that they are able to communicate effectively in business context.This thesis applies genre-based approach to Business English writing teaching. This thesis comprises four chapters. Chapter one summarizes Business English and Business English writing teaching, pointing out the present state of Business English writing teaching and problems existing. Chapter two is literature review, which elaborates the theoretical basis of applying genre-based approach to Business English writing teaching, including genre theory, literacy theory, ESP theory, competence theory and English writing theory. Chapter three is about the whole process of theoretical research of applying genre-based approach to Business English writing teaching. Chapter four is the findings and discussion part. The findings of this research can be summarized as: genre-based approach can arouse students' interest in Business English writing, enhance their audience awareness, cultivate their genre awareness and thus improve the overall writing proficiency. Although there are some limitations, this research shares valuable teaching implications.
