William Faulkner is one of the most famous writers in the first half of last century.Either from its contents or from its literatural skills to see,his works are extremrly representive. Year by year,the comments about his works were rising and rising. As time passing by,people more and more realized the value of his works,the researchresults about his works increased very fast,but"the father image"in his works were not noticed by chinese scholars,at least the systemic publications about this were not seen.The western literature always have had very strong interest in the motify of the relationship between the father and the son.Some well known classic works such as"Oedipus the King","ULYSSES","The Brothers Karamazov","Hamlet".William Faulkner's novels also have the same motify that is the relationship between the father and the son. Or we can say this motify is rotting in western culture. As an American writer, William Faulkner also anylsed the relationship between the father and the son,and molded lots of father images.This paper try to study"the father images"in William Faulkner's medium-term novels,analyse the unkown relationship between the different father images and the writer's own life and experiences.At last,found the metaphrical significance behind"the father images".At first,I will generally discuss every father image in William Faulkner's medium-term novels and classify them into four types according to their character.Secondly,find the connection between every father type and the writer's owen life,and then deeply analyse the intention at philosophical stage.At last,draw my conclusion that the four father images in William Faulkner's medium-term novels are derive from his own life and experiences.and the symbolic meaning of the father images is something about the ideology in that time.
