It was in Han Dynasty that Five-Character-Regular-Verse came into being. Then in the Eastern Han Dynasty, it reached its maturity. The present paper expounded closely on the theme of Five-Character-Regular-Verses of scholars in the Eastern Han Dynasty. It can be divided into the following five parts:Part I: A general analysis of Five-Character-Regular-Verse on its origin, its historic course of development and its impacts on the future generations.Part II: An analysis of the history-singing motif in the Five-Character-Regular-Verses of scholars in the Eastern Han Dynasty, mainly focusing on consciousness, artistic characteristics and literary status of Ban Gu's"Ode to History".Part III: An analysis of the love motif in the Five-Character-Regular-Verses of scholars in the Eastern Han Dynasty, mainly focusing on the love motif in the mutually-exchanged poems between the couple of Qin Jia and Xu Shu from two perspectives, including content and emotion.Part IV: An analysis of the life motif reflected in the"Nineteen Ancient Poems", mainly covering three aspects, including eternity opposite to limitation, life opposite to death and loyalty opposite to betrayal.Part V: An analysis of the reasons why scholars in the Eastern Han Dynasty had very evolutionary motifs in their Five-Character-Regular-Verses, mainly exploring into the influencing factors from the political environment, social and economic environment and cultural environment.
