Face Individual Identification And Sex Determination

A face not only marks a person's only exist, but also it shows a man's sex, age and race.etc. The former is called the identity information and the later is called attribute information. When people perceived a face, what is the cognitive process of both information? There are two different views with respective research, one view is that the cognitive process of two information is independent; each of them has its own mechanism. The second argument stands that two types of information processing have close relations, and the corresponding internal mechanism is not independent. Both views have evidence at present.This study uses the face recognition and face attribute judgment to measure the cognitive performance between identity recognition task and attribute judgment task by following the impacting of the experience and experts. Study point out that (1) the experience of the participant will influence the performance (2) the impact cause by experience is consistent (3) the impact cause by experience on both individual and race levels will lead consistent impact. These results will support the second view. Study compares the processing performance between familiar faces and unfamiliar faces by using identity recognition task and gender judgment task.In study1, we ask our classmates as participant and using their photographs as experiment material. So we can define these photos as familiar faces. Meanwhile, we choose the photos of other coetaneous unfamiliar students as unfamiliar faces. Then a comparison is carried out. The experiment shows that the identity recognition task performance of familiar faces is better the unfamiliar faces. Also, come with the same result of the gender judgment task.The result shows that the experience of the participant will influence the identity information and gender information. In experiment2, we select a group of students in a new class; they are unfamiliar to both types of photos in experiment1. Same operation is done to eliminate the interference caused by the attraction and specificity between familiar faces and unfamiliar faces. The result shows that the performance on both identity recognition task and gender judgment task will be similar after the familiar faces become unfamiliar. The result of study shows that the performance of identity recognition task and gender judgment task will influence by the participant experience at the same way, and this impact is not caused by the attraction and specificity.We introduce the face race properties in study two, the experiment in study two again investigate performance influenced by the experience. At the point of the race information, a face of the same race is more familiar and has more experiences; meanwhile, this experience is more abstract. So we can check the universality of the study one by comparing the performance of the same race and different race. Experiment3and experiment4compares the performance of the identity recognition task and gender judgment task between same race and different race by Chinese participant, the result comes out that better performance is found to both tasks than different race. Study two shows that even in the face of an abstract level face experience, it will influence the performance of identify recognition task and gender judgment task on the same way.The result of two studies shows that there is close relationship in internal mechanism of identity recognition processing and gender judgment processing at the point of more common experience.
