Listening comprehension is one of the most important aspects in communication. It is hard for two people to have successful communication if neither of them can understand what they heard. Some researches reveal that56.7%international students who learn Chinese in China regard listening comprehension as the first language skill they must master,60.9%foreigners who use Chinese as their daily language in China consider listening comprehension as the first language skill they must master, and so does the79.3%foreign diplomats,75%foreign businessmen. More and more researches on listening comprehension were carried out in recent years. However, most of those researches focus on the impacts of background knowledge and discourse structure on listening comprehension. Some describe the cognitive process on listening comprehension, but seldom lay emphasis on the impacts of elements of language on listening comprehension. This thesis aims at researching on the impact of grammar on listening comprehension, using the descriptive approach. Finally, this thesis would give some specific suggestion for the future listening class.This thesis would use Testing and Think-aloud approach. This thesis would prove the relationship between grammar and listening comprehension based on the Clark&Clark's (1977) listening comprehension model and an empirical study. Four international students and one native Chinese speaker took part in this research. This research would verify the relationship between grammar and listening comprehension by analyzing the testing results.This research reveals the relationship between grammar and listening comprehension. The author proposes some advices and methods for the future listening class based on the research results.
