Georg Philiop Telmann (1681--1767),German composer, the most prolific composer of his time, he was widely regarded as Germany's leading composer during the first half of the18th century. He remained at the forefront of musical innovation throughout his career, and was the most successful German composer on musical business operation. His lifetime career witnessed almost all kinds of musical genres of the late Baroque, and was an important link between the late Baroque and early Classical styles. The pastoral melody, the characteristic style, the wonderful expression, the bold innovations, combining with the colorful musical vocabularies, all these features made him the most popular composer in the court as well as the middle class. He also contributed significantly to Germany's concert life and the fields of music publishing, music education and theory and so on.On the foundation of Telemann's music and his musical contributions, this essay aims to summary and analyze his characteristic musical features, detailed historical contributions and his musical thoughts, hoping that people can pay enough attention to Telemann.The whole paper consists three parts. Chapter one comes from Telemann's instrumental music, especially his overture-suits, concertos, and programmed music to analyze his own musical features and contemporary features; Chapter two mainly introduces Telemann's social musical activities and contributions, including setting up collegium musicum, writing and performing opera and so on. The last chapter mainly analyzes Telemann's musical thoughts to help people understand his music better.
