In American modern history, the 1960s is a period of chaos and upheaval. After the World WarⅡ, the environment of the whole society had changed. With the development of the economic, there was a clash between the materialistic and hedonistic and traditional ideas. The Vietnam War, the Black Civil-rights Movement and the Women's Liberation Movement all led to Counterculture Movement. The most immediate reason was the psychological changes of the youth. They revolted against the values and way of life of Main Street fiercely in special ways, such as Rock and roll, drugs, sexual revolution. Using these ways, they forced the main society to make some adjustments and promote the reform; but it also did harm to the society in some aspects. Although this movement suffered a failure, the influence of the youth is gigantic, we should pay enough attention to the it and take this as a warning.
