New Horizons In Studying The Cross-strait Problems

Taiwan has been a part of China since ancient times. Because of unstable domestic politics and international interference, Taiwan and the Mainland have separated for a long time in fact.The cross-strait problems are the biggest obstacle in the process of national reunification.It is a long-cherished wish for generations to achieve the peaceful reunification across the Straits.The founding of new China is more than 60 years. As the residuum of civil war,the cross-strait problems could have been solved tardily. The reasons are not only the lack of enough political resources for the Mainland to achieve national reunification, but also the loss of intrinsic political resources in history. It were the Korean War and the Cultural Revolution that had changed the structure of cross-strait political resources.Further more,it had also been the main reason to strenthen Taiwan's centrifugal inclination and increased the difficulties to solve the cross-strait problems.Rethinking the past, the only way to solve the cross-strait problems are properly handling the cross-strait relations, grasping the favorable opportunities, exploiting and integrating kinds of political resources at home and abroad.Of course, it need to consider realities of the cross-strait problems when we exploit and integrate political resources. Currently, the whole situations of cross-strait are good: the interdependence of economic between the Mainland and Taiwan is increasing continuously. The superiority of military power is very abvious in Mainland. Negotiable systerm in business has already broken the ice crossing the strait."The three direct links"has become the true. The people-to-people contacts become more and more frequent. Inter-party exchange is growing greatly. The One China Principle is widely accepted. The peripheral environment is relatively stable.All those factors indicates that a peaceful settlement of cross-strait problems is entirely possible. Meanwhile, we should also recognize that many constraining factors must be faced to solving cross-strait problems in reality,such as the economic gap crossing the strait, the vigilance from the Taiwan authorities to face the policy of"promoting unification through economic", the diversity of military power in area,the contradiction of"one country, two systems"between history and reality, cooperative dilemmas of inter-party , Taiwan's international space, the different identity of cross–strait,and so on.Those manners require that we should exloit more political resources and work hard continuously for the final settlement of cross-strait problems.The cross-strait problems is not only related to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also associated with geopolitical security and future development. Basing on reality, it is an actual and urgent task to mobilize all positive factors and develop more kinds of political resources at home and abroad. On the part of domestic political resources, it is the key to realize the unification of motherland through accelerating economic development, narrowing the cross-strait economic gap and promoting the level of economic integration.What's more, treating inter-party relations properly, implementing the guideline of"placing hope on the Taiwan people"and facilitating political dialogue for the peace agreement would be realistic means to solve the cross-strait problems. In addition,the necessary military power and perfect legal system are the solid supporter and final ensure to realize national reunification.Finally, it is very important to foster concept identity.On the part of international political resources, we should properly handle the relations of great powers, coordinate regional strategy, insist on friendly neighbor policy, strengthen the partnerships with surrounding countries and avoid subordinate problems worsen.It is not eager to fight against diplomatic allies of Taiwan,but stick to gradual policy.In international organizations, we can negotiate with each other at the base of principles and give Taiwan certain international space. Finally, we should pay attention to the powers of overseas Chinese and world opinions in solving the cross-strait problems.
