Marx's Thought On Leisure And Its Practical Influence

With the improvement of social labor productivity, everyone's work time continues to shorten, free time is relatively extended, leisure becomes increasingly important component of people's lives.Along with it the study of leisure has become a major theme of modern sociological research. As one of the most influential thinkers in20th century's, Marx foresaw the importance of leisure in the development of human civilization, and he made a prospective study, and he made a number of innovative ideas, which provided some guidance on the theory study of our leisure and the development of China's leisure industry.Although the problem on leisure research is not Marx's major research. Almost all the writings of Marx, there are not directly or systematic discussion about leisure, in his report on "labor","free time" and "Man's free and comprehensive development" there are a lot of implication on leisure.Starting from three, the article excavates and combs Marx's idea on leisure. First, we discusses the concept of the leisure of Marx's, emphasizing that leisure is not just rest and relaxing, but a kind of positive, active and senior event.Secondly, we analyze the internal relations of leisure and these three areas.In the "free time" discussion, we analyze that shorting working hours, increasing free time are basic conditions to achieve leisure. In the "labor" discussion, we analyze the opposition of leisure and labor and the necessary conditions for unity. In "Man's free and comprehensive development" discussion, we analyze that leisure is an integral part of free and comprehensive development, while human freedom in turn promote development of leisure.Again, based on the preceding analysis, we discuss that Marx's thinking on leisure is a positive impact for China's contemporary leisure activities. From a practical point of view, Marx's thought on leisure provides a path for our leisure activities, improving the quality of leisure and producing community. From the concept of point of view, Marx's thought on leisure and the concept of harmony are similar under the vision of a harmonious society.So Marx's thought on leisure provides a beneficial theoretical basis for the concept of harmony leisure.
