Since the reform and opening up, various western ethos and ideas have flown into China, with the trend of information and globalization. Universities are the key objectives of the ideological penetration from Western hostile forces. They disseminate Western political ideas, values and lifestyles, and intend to make Chinese young generation unconsciously accept. Thus, Western ethos in the trend of globalization is and will remain influencing contemporary college students, and currently the coexistence of various ideas is normal.Contemporary Western ethos reflects contradictions in capitalist society. It is rooted in the Western economy and society, whose development in turn led to the acute contradictions in social political life. The paper generally discusses three categories respectively: political ethos, economic ethos and social ethos, and focuses on four typical cornerstones in Western ethos: Democratic socialism, Neo-liberalism, Historical nihilism, Universal values. It disserts the historical development, basic elements and propositions of the four cornerstones, profoundly analyzes and reveals the essential natures in capitalism, the dissemination pattern and the incompatibility and contrariety with socialist mainstream consciousness. In sum, four cornerstones are personal- and self-centered. As Western ethos contains all social systems and ideologies, and represents interests and aspirations of the bourgeoisie, Western hostile forces often interfere with domestic affairs in other countries by various ethos and methods, with the carrier of cultural transmission and the purpose of political penetration.Due to the trend of globalization and information, as the Western ethos transmits quickly in China, college students get acquainted with the ethos through some channels. However, owning to the hidden, deceptive, confusing and complicated nature of the ethos, college students cannot fully analyze and then resist them, thus they may recognize and agree to some extent. The paper is based on practical investigation, focuses on the shocks of Western ethos on college students, and explores the fact that ideas of some students are prone to converge with Western ethos, including ideological"diversification", loss of social development goals, recognition of the separations of powers. In the value orientations, new in-negligible problems emerge among college students, such as moral decline, egoism, utilitarian and practical values. These problems lead to a drastic change in college students'values, induces alienation and confusion in their thoughts.For the huge shocks of Western ethos on contemporary college students, the paper further objectively discuses and explores regularities in the development of the social ideology of college students, put forwards an idea that we must apply the system of socialist core value to construct the campus culture and values education, and resist the erosion from Western ethos. And, the paper put forwards"four persistences", based on the analyzing the importance and necessity of the system of socialist core value in educating college students. Meanwhile, it points out the methods and channels, such as constructing core value of college students.To sum up, facing the influx of Western ethos, it is important to lead a noble and healthy campus culture by the system of socialist core value, through which we could resolve the shocks of Western ethos effectively. Only by the system of socialist core value, can contemporary college students have a correct understanding of global and domestic affairs, objectively recognize the class properties of Western ethos, separate the representation and essence, and firmly believe in the socialism with Chinese characters..
