Directives are discourse behaviors with the function of getting a person to do something such as suggest, request, and command. Because the key role of directives in the class, this thesis will try to classify the directives that the intern teachers use in a second language class. The teacher belief, mediation theory, comprehensible input, and speech act theory are adopted here to analyze the collected data including the class transcriptions and questionnaires. This thesis tries to find out the mediative features of directives that the teacher uses in a second language classroom. After analyzing the data, I got the conclusions as follows:In the second language teaching class, the directives the intern teachers use are classified into direct directives, directives with explanations, directives with repetitions, and indirect directives. From the aspect of the sentence sructure, the directives are classified into direct and indirect directives, that is, verb phrases, Let's..., abbreviated directives, Can/Could/Would you...?, declaratives, and declarative plus a tag question. When the intern teacher delivers directives, they play as a mediator and the language they used is mediation-featured.Based on the conclusions, this thesis attempts to give some suggestions on the use of directives for intern teachers and demonstrates some ways to help the intern teachers to get experienced in teaching. Of course, there are many problems in this thesis as a result of the limitations on the research scale, research methodology, and personal elements. Researchers can launch further studies on this topic with larger research scales and focus on more specific aspects of directives.
