The Study Of Institutional Research In Quality Assurance System Of American Higher Education

Institutional Research is produced and popular in the United States, it is an applied research that institutional researchers do for their university's specific operational problems. Institutional Research promotes the development of Quality Assurance system in the U.S. higher education.In this paper, the research uses literature research and comparative research, defines the relevant concepts of Institutional Research and Quality Assurance, describes the historical relationship between Institutional Research and Quality Assurance System of U.S higher education, studies the work of Institutional Research in internal and external Quality Assurance system of U.S higher education, and then analyzes the features,roles and qualifications of Institutional Research in internal and external Quality Assurance system of U.S higher education. Through the research, I find that under the influence of institutional research agency,institutional researcher,information technology and good communication in university, Institutional Research in internal and external Quality Assurance system of U.S higher education is based on data, starts as the research, uses the report as an intermediary to improve their work and educational quality.On the basis of the comparative analysis and the combination of China's national conditions, the research analyzes status and disadvantages of Institutional Research in China higher education's Quality Assurance system, and then proposes the corresponding recommendations to effectively promote the development of Institutional Research in China higher education Quality Assurance system. At the present stage, problems to be resolved include: (1) to establish and improve relevant institutional research office which can do institutional research as an independent department in university; (2)to make full use of institutional research's function to guarantee internal teaching quality of higher education; (3)to strengthen administrative support for institutional research which can provide protection for its implement successfully;(4) to strengthen the construction of data resources and build university's data repository which institutional Research needs; (5)to improve the role of Institutional Research which bases the external quality assurance system. I hope this paper can improve the sustainable development of Institutional Research in China higher education Quality Assurance and the quality of higher education.
