Research On The Deletion Of Souce Culture In High School English Textbooks

In the early 1980s, people begin to realize the the importance of culture in foreign language teaching in China. For these 30 years, the culture of teaching research in our country has also achieved some results, but there is a phenomenon exist in it,that is, people pay too much on the target culture while ignore the source culture.It is understandable to emphasis on the target culture in foreign language teaching,but with little concern on source culture, which had lead to many high school students can not use English to express the source culture correctly and clearly, and Congcong, who is a professor Nanjing university, defined it" aphasia of Chinese culture ".In order to find out the reason of "aphasia of Chinese culture", I study the textbooks, for which contains most of the cultural content and it also the main medium of teaching. I take the high school textbooks which are published by People Education Press for example. I analyze the high school English textbooks form four angles, that is, the proportion of source culture, the structure of source culture, the forms of source culture and the times of source culture.And the conclusion is that the proportion of source culture in the high school textbooks is small, the source culture content is relatively seldom. Also the source culture is in a relatively low position, source culture does not have a complete system content and is lake of representative.My purpose is to cause people's attention to the source culture,I hope it can provide some suggestions for the textbook writes when they choose cultural content, I wish it is helpful for teachers to teach culture during the foreign language teaching, and also I want to provide guidance for students'learning.
