Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) with scaffolding instruction anchored in constructivism is a new trend in the development of English teaching. Nowadays, much attention is paid to the research and practice into CALL in the world. But in China the research on the applications of CALL, especially to the English teaching in High School, is less developed. In this case, the ideas and the related research done in this paper are of great significance to the improvement of teaching efficiency, all-round heightening of students'quality, raising the awareness of English teachers'scientific research and innovation and the enhancement of the ability of utilizing teaching resources. The author not only summarizes the previous research and applications of CALL with scaffolding instruction, but also tries to find out the effects of application of CALL with scaffolding instruction to teaching reading in high school English classes on students'reading ability and their learning motivation. Through setting up situation and building scaffolding, the teacher guides the students to explore, discuss and consult mutually, form learning groups to share ideas and wisdom, and helps students to accomplish the sense of construction of what they are learning and the cognitive structure themselves .In order to study this teaching model, the author did an experiment in which the students were given pre-test and post-test. In experiment class a questionnaire survey on motivation was done. The results were processed using SPSS 17.0. It has been proved that by applying CALL with scaffolding instruction to reaching reading in high school English classes, students' reading skills were greatly developed and has a great effect on the motivation of students'English learning as well. However, there were still limits in the experiment. For example, research objects were few, as a result, the collected data could not tell the whole story; Research methods only included the test and questionnaire investigation. Using more research methods may make the data richer, preciser and more convincing. In addition, there were not enough available ready-made teaching coursewares. So the above results are to be further validated.
