The English learners are fully acquainted with the five important skills in English learning"listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating". It is not difficult to find that the listening skill occupies the most fundamental and important place. At least 40% of the time in daily communication is used for listening(Cooper,1998). In recent years, curriculum reform of English teaching has been done to change the teaching mode. The English teaching has shifted from teachers'teaching to students'learning. There is a tendency that the emphasis of knowledge-teaching has transmitted to focus on developing the students'learning competence and teaching the learning skills. At present, there are a great number of studies on"learner autonomy". However, these studies are mainly on students'autonomous English learning as a whole. The studies aiming at students'autonomous listening can barely be spotted. We can get a rough idea of the importance of listening. For the comprehensive development and implement of quality-oriented education, it has been stressed that the teaching objective is to cultivate the English comprehensive application abilities, especially the listening and speaking abilities. After entering the senior school, the students'mental and physical condition develops fast, the students have a series of learning methods. The students begin to come into contact with the multimedia teaching approach, which is alien to the single tape record listening. They are energetic and curious to the new learning mode, which simulates the students'learning autonomy to some extent. And what on earth the application of autonomous listening strategies is now under the multimedia teaching mode. Based on the theories, this study is based on the motivation to get a general idea of the use of autonomous English listening strategies among all the students as well as the differences of listening strategies between boys and girls, afterwards, to find out the problems existing in the autonomous listening, which is expected to instruct our teaching work in the future.First, 125 Senior Two students in No. 2 Senior High School of XinXiang participated in the study and a questionnaire was conducted among them. Then, the quantitative data of the research results were analyzed by using SPSS. Afterwards, some students were interviewed after class for the author to have a more full-scale picture of the problems existing in students'autonomous learning. As the survey shows, the students autonomous listening is at a low level, the students'use of the autonomous listening strategies does not seem optimistic, the students do not have systematic knowledge of listening strategies. The students use the listening strategies infrequently. Owing to this, this study suggests"learners'training"be carried out among the students, to arouse the learners'autonomy and intensify the listening strategies.
