Along with the arrival of the knowledge economy era, a whole new management concept—knowledge management emerges. It emphasizes the importance of knowledge, advocates knowledge sharing and innovation and suggests taking advantage of collective intelligence to improve the adaptability and innovation ability. The development and perfection of knowledge management, especially its successful stories in business, challenges the traditional management theories and methods. Meanwhile, higher education in China is influenced by popularization and globalization and has been undergoing profound revolutions. Due to the expanding of scale of education, competition and conflicts of interest between colleges and universities, the management systems and methods need a 180 degree turn. The idea of knowledge management is born for the higher education revolution and innovation and brings new ideas and perspectives. The different levels of offices in colleges and universities are very important parts of the organization. It acts like an information fuse center and plays various essential roles inside and outside. After reviewing the current status based on knowledge management perspective, we find out that administrative offices in colleges and universities are not perfect in terms of ideology, system of organization and staff training etc. and need to be improved by innovation such as computer-based office information system, new system of organization, improvement of staff qualities and the use of new incentives. There are four chapters of the thesis. The first chapter is the introduction and it gives the main idea and research method. The second chapter is talking about the definition and characteristics of knowledge management. The third chapter involves the application of knowledge management to the current higher education system. In the last chapter I give some advice of how to improve.
