| As a common teaching strategy in an English class, questioning is an influential teaching art. Since ancient times, Chinese and foreign educators have paid attention to and made full use of it. No matter what kind of teachers they are, they usually make lots of questions. In a regular class, it takes much time for teachers and students to communicate with each other by means of questioning. So teaching strategies will affect the result of a class very much.Reading skill is important in NMET, but it is the weakness of students. So it is teachers'task to improve students'reading ability. At the same time, a good reading class is necessary. In the course of reading, teachers can know whether the students have understood the reading passage through questioning. The application of questioning strategies will make effects on students'reading skills and reading habits. As a consequence, teachers should make effective questions. However, in the real class, some teachers'questions are not satisfied, for example: some teachers didn't make a good preparation, have no clear aims, which must make effects on the result of teaching.How about the teachers'questioning in the reading class of high middle school in our area now? This paper analyzes and does it from the following three aspects:the number of teachers'questions , question types and teachers'questioning methods.The writer will choose two classes awarded as objects of study from an activity organized by teaching and researching office in our area, at the same time collect and analyze the data in order to get the information about the teachers'questioning. Then analyze two regular classes at random in order to get the information about the teachers'questioning in the regular class. In further, research and analyze the comparison between the regular classes and the classes which are awarded. Then interview some teachers about questioning so as to know their preparation for the questions. Based on this,provide some suggestions and find an effective way to improve the quality of questioning in the high middle schools.The main findings are concluded as follows:All of the teachers ask many questions and the number of the display questions is larger than referential questions, especially in the regular lessons. As to the way of questioning, few students in the high school volunteer in a class, teachers usually point at certain students to answer. The number of students who volunteer in the class awarded is larger than that in the regular class. Chorus-answering and teacher self-answering are commonly used. So teachers should prepare questions carefully before a class, choose excellent questions, ask more referential questions and think about the level of questions in order that questions make good effect on the quality of a lesson. |
