The Sixteenth World Championship of Men's Basketball was held during the many national teams'transitional phase. The players of new generation shine during this tournament and the ranking competition of world men's basketball teams is even more intense. As the saying goes, "Offense wins audiences, and defense wins champion." The data analysis of this tournament suggests that defense dictates the outcome, especially the defense of fast break. Chinese men's basketball team is weaker in the defense of fast break compared with the traditional top teams. Due to the lack of domestic study of defending the fast break, the theoretical and practical research into the defense of fast break has become the top priority. This paper aims to find out the gap between Chinese men's basketball team and top ones in the defense of fast break by analyzing their court performance. Knowing the reasons for the gap, corresponding improvement is available, which has great theoretical significance and practical value. This paper studies and launches corresponding defensive strategy of fast break from its three development stages. To achieve this, fast-break phenomenon and progress observing, literature review, expert interview, questionnaire, observation of collected video statistics, mathematical statistics and logical analysis are applied in this paper. By analyzing Chinese teams'indicator statistics concerning fast-break defense during the Sixteenth World Championship of Men's Basketball, and comparing those data with the top four teams, we obtain the shortcomings and deficiencies of Chinese team, which can provide reference and basis for more effective fast-break defensive strategies for future training, and finally improve the fast-break defense capacity in play. Thus, we can narrow the gap between our teams and the top ones, so that the rapid and overall development of Chinese men's basketball is possible. The conclusions of the paper are listed as follows:1. Controlling the sources of fast breaks is of the average level among all the teams. As for this, the gap between our team and the top four is wide. Players don't participate in rebounding, especially offensive rebounds actively enough. Most players also lack the sense of rebounding screens, relying the rebounding mainly on the inside players.2. When the Chinese men's basketball teams defends the start of a fast break, they do not participate actively enough, and lag largely behind other teams, especially the top four in the following aspects such as defensive rebounds, turnovers, etc. The success ratio of first-pass defense and the block of the second-pass differ greatly from other teams and the top four. The difference with others teams in the defense of second-pass teamwork is not so significant as imagined. 3. The gap between Chinese men's basketball team and other teams, especially the top four, in the defense of opponents' dribbling forward is great. And we're of the same level as other teams in the defense of opponents'court movement through ball-passing, but deficient in ball-pass interference and defense pressure.4. During the conclusion of fast break, the gap between Chinese men's basketball team and other teams in the overall defense capacity and one-on-one defense is not so much, but of the same level with the average teams. Due to the irrational lineup, the success ratio of advantageous defense is lower than the top four teams.5. The second-fastbreak defense performance of Chinese men's basketball team is slightly better than the average teams, but not so good as the top four teams.6. The overall defensive capacity against fast breaks of Chinese men's basketball team is close to that of average teams, but lags greatly behind that of world top teams, according to the data analysis.
