Central University For Nationalities Ethnic Unity Education Research

The Minzu University of China (MUC)is the earliest established institution of higher learning for the education of ethnic minorities in China.The predecessor of it was the Institute for Ethnic Minorities in Yan'an. After a long history of development,MUC has established an unique ethnic unity education system by keeping pace with the times and innovating continuously.Reviewing the course of its ethnic unity education,summing up the experience and offering reference for the development of ethnic unity educaion to institutes of all levels and kinds are of great significance for promoting ethnic unity education nationwide.This paper begins with the introduction of the Institute for Ethnic Minorities in Yan'an, more precisely,how it developped into the Central Institue of Nationalities(CIN) and finally MUC.During this process,it has developed the trandition of instructing the Marxist ethnic theories and the Party's policy toward ethnic minorities though classroom teaching.Meanwile, MUC also attaches great impotance to integrating theory with practice, teaching with research,and the penetration of political and ideological work both in and after class to strengthen the education of ethnic equality and unity as well as to enhance the mutual respect among different ethnic groups. Secondly,through investigation and research,this paper also analyses the present situation of ethnic unity education in MUC as well as the highly desirable results it has achieved. However, we should also be alert to students'excessive national consciousness and the negative influence of the Internet.If these problem do exist,we should guide and educate the students accordingly.Moreover,by summing up MUC's experience of ethnic unity education,this paper has come to a conlution that correct ethnic theory is the guidance for ethnic unity education;the working mechanism brings the security to ethnic unity education;the flexible teaching methods helps implementing the ethnic unity education process.All of these have inspired other universities to estabish the humanistic solicitude centered on students of all ethnic groups,and to establish the harmonious campus culture and also to complete the long-term education with multiagency coordination system.Thus we can ensure the effectiveness and consistency of the ethnic unity education.The purpose of this paper is to make an exploratory research on MUC's ethnic unity education so as to enrich China's ethnic unity education theories and make contribution to the practice of it.
