With the developing of techniques of geological exploration and computer visualization, geologic blocks visualization is becoming a hotspot in geological exploration and computer science. In geologic blocks visualization, geologic data is constructed into meshes, displayed and rendered, in order to redisplay the geological model in computers, which can be an effective and instinctive method for geological researchers, of researching on geological characteristics, forecasting the locations and reserves of mineral resources and hydrocarbons, and finding the mistakes in geologic data.In geology exploration, by analyzing the seismic waves, researchers get a set of three-dimensional points, which is the original geologic data. Because of the original geologic data is ill-organized, so it cannot be used in the construction of geological meshes directly. By analyzing the distribution and physical information of geologic blocks, the original geologic data is divided into different subsets, which represent the layers and faults of geologic blocks.Key techniques of visualization of three-dimensional geologic surface are presented in this paper. Visualization of three-dimensional geologic surface contains two main parts: geologic surface modeling and geologic mesh data visualization. Geologic surface modeling is used to construct a closed body from geologic data by meshes. Research on key techniques in geologic surface modeling is an important part in this thesis. In the surface subdivision, geologic data is subdivided into triangle meshes by randomized incremental algorithm. In the surface reconstruction, reconstruction techniques are proposed from analyzing the specific characteristics and different conditions in geologic surface reconstruction. Triangle mesh regulation is proposed to densify the triangle meshes of surface reconstruction, and improve the quality of triangles. The geologic surface reconstruction procedure is systematic. The triangulation method and surface reconstruction method proposed in this thesis is effective in geologic modeling.The main purpose of geologic data visualization is to display the geologic data. The main procedure and dominating visualization tools are introduced in this thesis. Open Inventor is chosen to be the visualization tool in this thesis. Geologic meshes are displayed and rendered by the use of proper shape node and visualization frame. By the experiments, the method proposed in this thesis is proved to be workable in geologic surface data visualization.
