In view of the work characteristics of EV batteries, a set of monitoring system for EV batteries was designed in this subject. This system was used to realize the functions of real-time monitoring, charge and discharge control, patrolling, temperature detection and pre-alarm for cell and the entire set of EV lithium ion batteries, so it extended battery life, improved the energy efficiency and operating reliability. This paper studies the charge and discharge characteristics of the battery and estimation methods for battery power. Using the distributed collection and centralized treatment system structure, we have realized some functions of the single and whole group batteries for electric vehicles, which are real-time monitoring, charge and discharge control, current and voltage data logging, temperature monitoring, pre-alarm to extend battery life and increase the possibility of the battery power efficiency and perform operation. This paper has designed distributed capture node based on arm7 processor, which can accurately capture voltage, current, temperature, etc and support the charge and discharge balance control using CAN bus communication. The central management unit adopts the Linux system and uses MiniGUI to design Human-computer interface which can be combined with trip computer and has good scalability. The monitoring system of this paper adopts the estimation strategy of using weighting factor of ampere—hour method combined with open-circuit voltage, and estimates electric quantity considering the factor of battery's aging, so it can overcome the traditional shortcoming of only using the battery voltage to estimate electric quantity and provide more accurate and efficient battery management.
