| Whereas current catering industry faces harsh market pressures such as increases of prices of goods and labor costs, increasingly smaller profits and hardly maintainable industry scale, various ordering systems come forth. But current in use ordering systems are operated by waiters but not customers themselves whose want more experiences and details about dishes and services are neglected. In this paper, we present a B/S based customer ordering system model. Customers can access and browse the ordering server through a wireless PDA and make the order; waiters can access the ordering system and provide services such as cooking, serving and check-out, etc,. Customers can also call to reserve a table or the dining-room which is recorded in the database by waiters. We have designed management modules to maintain data of menu, tables and waiters. The ordering system is implemented with cost-effective Mini2440 which is embedded with Linux, Qt and WebKit-based browser. The server is a website system which is based on Java and Mysql running on common PCs. The ordering system provides interactions between customers and restaurants which satisfies customers'requirements to find out more details about dishes and services, facilitates the restaurant to collect customers'comments and suggestions which can improve service quality of the restaurant and make customer-restaurant win-win. |
