With the explosive emergence of new services and fast expansion of network scale, the convergence of the communication industry is becoming more and more prominent. Especially, as a developing trend of the future transport network technology, it has to get the qualities of higher rate, more reliable survivability, efficient performance, flexible control and management capacity. PTN (Packet Transport Network) not only has maintained the traditional advantages of SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) transmission network, but also has added features to adapt data services, such as packet switching, statistical multiplexing, connect oriented labeled switch, etc. With these characteristics, PTN possesses very strong transport abilities, and can be well applied for different Internet traffic. So, PTN has got more and more attention by the researchers.The first issue of the ALL IP mobile network against the backdrop of the existing line of metro transport network evolution, analyzes the existing metropolitan transmission network, the evolution of route, the main technological and trend of development. And specific description of the existing metro transport networks of several major technology(PDH,SDH,MSTP and WDM). The characteristics of several technological and application of the comparison, and points out the development trend of metro transport network.Secondly on the packet transport network (PTN) carried out a detailed technical analysis. First introduced the principle and architecture of PTN, In addition to this section gives the packet transport network (PTN) of the definition, but also detailed how the hierarchical structure of PTN, functions and technical characteristics of plane (ie, technology advantages PTN). Then it discussed in detail the relationship between PTN and the existing networks and interoperability, PTN pointed out the location of the existing networks and applications, and PTN to the integration with existing networks.Again as a core subject, through the "Beijing Mobile Transport Network 209" about the design and analysis, describes the PTN in the actual metro network in the transmission network specific applications.
