Information management and workflow control now play a very important role in the information construction of the enterprises. As a well known software company, Microsoft always takes the leading position in this area. In order to improve the maintain work efficiency, reduce the complexity in the workflow of fixing defects, Microsoft SQL Server team developed a hotfix release system with workflow control based on its own business. The author got involved in this project and takes the responsibility of designing and implementing some key models. The System was welcomed by the customers since deployment.Nearly all the people and groups are got involved in this system. It controls the entire life cycle of the hotfix which created by Customer Service Support and then to Product Manager, Project Manager, Developement team, Build Team, Test Team and Release team eventually. The customers sing high praise to this the system because of its high degree of automation and convenience of use. The productivity in SQL Server team was improved drematically by the system. This article firstly introduces the background of this project, and then does necessary research on the current popular technolgy and inverstigates the other similar systems and solutions in SQL Server team. After that, it anaylisys the requiremt and proposed the final solution and structure of the system by compareing other proposals. Finally, it introduces the sub systems and takes one of the key compnents VSTS Service as an example, and provids the detailed design and implementation by using the approach of OOAD.The article indicates the importance of the OOAD approach in the software engineering by analyzing, designing and implementing the hotfix workflow system in Microsoft SQL Server team. Moreover, the process of developing a successful information system was introduced in this article by showing the entire developing process history.
