With the continuous emergence of new technologies and the growing intensifying of communication industry competition, the trend of service-driven network development becomes a common sense. Service provisioning has been one of the key technologies of the Next Generation Network. Currently, international standardization organizations agree on a service definition system based on service Enablers. Converged Address Book (CAB) is such a new service based on Enablers from OMA to adapt to new communication needs.Based on the experience gained in an enterprise funded research project on CAB technologies, the thesis systematically studies CAB system architecture design and implementation techniques of various functions with reference to related documents from OMA and 3GPP. And a CAB prototype system is designed and implemented.Firstly, the thesis gives an introduction to the background of service network development and the significance of CAB research work. Following an analysis of the current status and shortcomings of existing commercial address book systems, the basic concepts and functional requirements of the CAB system is described and the difference between them is revealed. Secondly, XDM Enabler and its associated protocols are elaborated. Thirdly, a fesible CAB system structure is detailed. Based on the above studies, three implementation techniques are proposed, i.e. that of personal contact information distrubution using Contact View, advertising announcement function and extended reverse location function. Finally, the software design of the CAB prototype system is provided and the software procedure of the extended functions is depicted.
