The appearance of virtual instruments brings the traditional measurement technology into a new stage. It breaks the traditional concept of measurement technology and the vigorous development of virtual instruments not only becomes the mainstream of modern testing industry but also adds new vitality for machining manufacturing industry. Based on LabVIEW, the paper explores virtual instruments for the measurement of cutting force and cutting temperature. First, the paper proposed the measurement method of cutting force and cutting temperature and finished the design of hardware system which including the selection of the data acquisition card, sensor, and amplifier. Software design is the key of this system. The measurement task is divided into multiple modules and then designing, when altering system function only need changing the corresponding module. The module of software system mainly includes data acquisition, data processing, creation of empirical equation and calibration of cutting force. Data acquisition, data processing, data analysis and the calibration of dynamometer and so on can be achieved through the function button of front panel. Sampling of data acquisition can be obtained by adopting the way of multi-channel scanning, and then follow-up treatment by data processing which can finish the function of data storage, data replay, and data truncation; according to the different parameter, the formula of cutting force and cutting temperature can be obtained by the module of empirical equation.
