With the high-speed development of electronic technology, computer technology and wireless communication technology, the power line monitoring technology based on wireless sensor networks emerges, as the times require. The technology will gradually replace the traditional power line monitoring way in the near future. It will have the broad application prospect and become the popular research field.Recent developments in the field of power line monitoring system have led to a renewed interest in wireless sensor networks, which is characterized by strong real time, high reliability, adaptability, load balancing and so on. However, the "network bottleneck" problem which is likely to occur around the sink node must be taken into account. This paper proposes a new routing algorithm accross WSN neighboring layers-AGCRO. First of all, the forwards ants search for the feasible paths based on the load value in the routing optimization algorithm. These paths are considered as the initial population of the genetic algorithm. The codings of the paths are considered as chromosomes. Secondly, the fitness function of the path is defined with delay, hop count and link frame deliver rate. The path selection operator, cross operator and mutation operator are calculated by the fitness function of the chromosomes. Finally, the backwards ants update the pheromone of the optimal paths. In a word, the parameters of the link frame deliver rate and the load value are obtained from the data link layer. The parameters of the delay and hop count are obtained from the network layer. The improved AntNet algorithm adds these parameters into the routing optimization process. The optimal path can satisfy the requirements of power line monitoring system. The routing algorithm accross WSN neighboring layers was simulated in the simulation environment-OMNeT++. The simulation results demonstrate that the routing algorithm can guarantee the real time, reliability and robustness of wireless sensor networks with long-chain structure. It can also achieve the network load balancing and congestion control mechanism. Hence the new routing algorithm can provide better quality of service for power line monitoring system.
