Design And Implementation Of DHCP Server Under Linux

With the development of the internet and the growing network size, the network topology becomes more and more complex, and the important of the automatic configuration for IP address or other network parameters becomes more and more prominent. It is a very important and interesting topic that how to manage the network resources rationally and effectively. The emergence of DHCP provides a good solution for this problem. It can not only greatly reduce the burden of administrators, but also make a rational and effective allocation of network resources. The researches show that, DHCP has a great significance for it can well adapt to the growing internet users and increasingly complex network environment.In this paper, we will make an in-depth analysis for DHCP and ICMP, including the basic principles of these protocols and the important influence they bring for the subject. According to the standards of these protocol and marketing demand, an implementation of the DHCP server under Linux is provided, the design of this implementation uses structured design methodology. Based on the analysis for the main functions and the relationship with the outside modules of DHCP system, the general scheme and module devision are explained. Then the bule print for packet parsing and server address management are spread in details, the latter includes how to manage lease efficiently, which is the difficulty of system design. After that, the program development is realized.Finally, the testing ideas, methods and enivironment for DHCP server system is provided. And also, the testing procedures and results are described briefly. These results show that the system meets the protocol standards and the initial demand, and achieve the expected goals. DHCP server will play as an important application on routers or high-level switchers produced by a communication equipment provider. These devices will have great prospects and great value when they are into the market.
