As the digital signal processor (DSP) become more and more powerful, we can not give full play to the performance of DSP without the support of the operating system. The embedded operating system can improve the software development speed on DSP, ease system debugging, and let the software code to be reused better. In the field of digital image processing, people demand higher processing speed, especially in real-time video image processing. Acording to this, the development of real-time embedded operating system has become an important research direction.After the research of the theory and techniques of embedded operating system and modern DSP, this paper gives a method of how to build a real-time image processing operating system,and makes a thorough analyzes of the system design and code optimization. This paper optimizes the system performance from system level, algorithm level and code level, to make it to meet the real-time needs. This paper also summarizes the strategies and methods in optimization, which is highly significant in embedded software design.Finally, this paper summarizes the research done and points out the shortage of the system design and optimization, and also presents the improving methods.
