It has been nearly two decades since the first VMS (Video Monitoring System) was deployed. Within those years, it witnessed a rapid development for VMS. Analogous VMS was extensively used at the early stage, then digital VMS was invented and used in many field. At recent years, networked VMS is developing rapidly and badly needed in many industries. However, they have series of special requirements in many fields, so it is necessary to design video monitoring systems according to applications.In this article, we will describe a system we designed for power system monitoring. DaVinCiTM DSP TMS320DM320 works as the central processor for the platform. The processor shows a brilliant performance in video/graphics processing applications. The platform provides NTSC/PAL video interfaces and PCI Master/Slave interconnecting ability, which can be used to interconnect with wireless module.We design the platform with the help of several software tools. OrCAD is for hardware schematic design, PSpice is for hardware interface verification and CCStudio is for software development.
