For the purpose to make China's high-definition media player industry development well, it is very necessary to have an audio-video container of which we own the intellectual property. Additionally, in order to meet the needs of people life more and to have a more rational of copyright protection than what is now, NVD high-definition disc player should change its business model. In this transform, there appears a new request that the sources of programs should include a variety of ways, not just optical disc, hard disk and smart card, but also networks. So it requires NVD to use an audio-video container format which can support all kinds of programs'sources to play.The basic requirement of an audio-video container is that it can package audio, video or subtitle encoded element streams into a file and from the file it can extract information, which can be decoded correctly. Different audio-video containers used in the same environment normally have different effect. The NVD container in the new business model should have many features. It should support the main encoding formats; all frames are interlaced in decoding order; multiple audio, video and subtitle streams could existing in a file used this format; it should contain indexing information; a file used this format, which is an 1920*1080 high definition program which lasts nearly 135 minutes, should not larger than a NVD disc's storage.Because all the existing containers can not meet the requirements of NVD high-definition disc players, a new container named HDAV was designed with EBML. HDAV used the basic framework of Matroska, adopted the idea of hit tracks in MP4 and some advantages of other containers. A muxer and a demuxer for HDAV were implemented in the FFmpeg project. After the test works for the creation and playing back of HDAV file carried out separately on PC and NVD based on CSM1201 chip, the conclusion that HDAV meet the need of NVD player under the new business model was generally approved.
