Smart Camera is a highly integrated system, which conbines the functionality of image acquisition, procession, and data communication into one single module, providing a multifuncitional, efficient, and pratical machine vision solution. The data communication and video output interface are two important parts of the smart camera system, which are also the main topics of this dissertation.Based on TI's DM6437 DMP, a set of data commnunication interface driver codes were designed, and the video output control method was discussed in this dissertaion. Based on TI's multilayered software structure, and the device driver interfacing standards of the DSP/BIOS OS, the driver code for HECC (High-End Can Controller) module was composed and tested, result showed that the system was efficiently connected to CAN network.Based on the EMAC/MDIO hardware module of DM6437, a Transmit/Receive data buffer ring was implemented. A simplified TCP/IP protocol stack uIP was transplanted to this system, and the protocol of ARP, ICMP and TCP was realized on DM6437. Test results showed that, the system was efficiently connected to the Internent.A system auto-update solution was introduced in this dissertation, which was based on Internet data transmission, and a selective bootloader. The updated application code was first extracted and transmitted from the monitor station and received by the Smart Camera system. The system then burned the updated code into the flash memory, and signaled the bootloader to load the updated software version after system reset.Also disscussed in this dissertaion was the detail of controlling the Video Processing Sub-System on DM6437 to output video singnals. The disseration analysed the PSP (Programmer's Support Packet) driver code provided by TI for the Video Processing System Back End, and the procedure of outputting user-defined video signal was generalized.
