In a conventional calibration service, users send their instruments to a laboratory or the professionals come with standard instruments for routine calibrations. As a result, the conventional calibration operation has a long cycle, is difficult to manage, and spends high cost. Traditional calibration methods have been far lagging behind the rapid development of the need for instrument calibration. One effective solution is to use the Internet to remotely control the off-site calibration, which is called Remote Calibration or Tele-Calibration. Currently, a number of international calibration units or testing centers have carried out long-range research on the remote calibration technology. Some mature research projects have been put into practical application, such as the automated calibration system MET/CAL developed by U.S. Fluke Corporation. Compared with these projects, the remote calibration technology in china is still in the exploratory stage, but is not practically used. Therefore, it is necessary and significant to carry out this project. The project roots in the basic equipment and technology projects of the General Armament Department, dedicated to the design and development of the basis remote calibration platform. Firstly, the article compares the traditional calibration with remote calibration, emphasizing the advantages of the remote calibration. Secondly, the article outlines the key technologies for developing the remote calibration. In order to minimize the coupling in the system, the modularized programming method is adopted, which makes the system easy to expand and upgrade. The overall system architecture is designed first, and then its details. After comparing the characteristics of various types of available systems and analyzing the requirements, this article provides the system architecture, its modules, and the calibration process. Under the subjective and objective conditions, the system uses the Visual Studio 2008 as the software platform, the .NET Framework for web environment development, and the C# language for software development. The project completes the design of the remote calibration system software platform, and tests the calibration of the Source Meter under laboratory conditions with a higher-accuracy multimeter. Finally, the article analyzes the systematic uncertainty, and estimates it based on the data collected from the test. The remote calibration system designed in this project realizes remote instrument calibration. It is easy to operate, spends low cost, and requires a short calibration cycle. It can be commonly used for instruments with digital interfaces and meets the requirements of real-time transmission of data in a calibration process.
