| Streaming Media is a technology to transmit multimedia information in data network as a way of flow. The technology of Streaming and its application have received more and more attention, due to the demand driven from its users and the swift development of broad band internet technology. In the future, Streaming-Media-based Video-On-Demand (VOD) system will be predicted to be one of the most mainstream applications. VOD system is mainly to provide users with on-demand audio and video business through network, without restrictions of time and space. VOD technology has changed the past passive way of receiving information, which has broad prospects and great economic benefits, and its technology development has been in a leading position. Therefore, doing research on VOD system has certain practical significance and function.In this paper, we do research on design and realization for streaming-media-based VOD system from actual application and requirement, which will make users watch videos while they are being downloaded, rather than downloading the whole video files. The paper involves computer science technology, networking and communications, and other areas.Our main research work reflects in the following aspects.1. In foundational technology aspect, we briefly elaborate related basic technologies for VOD system, such as stream media technology, multimedia technology, data compression technology and so on. We focus on transmission characteristics and principles, transmission mode and its related protocols for stream media, and summarize system development technologies of ASP.NET, which will all lay a foundation for system research and development.2. In function and module aspects, we mainly analyze three-tier structure used by VOD system. The structure includes some modules, such as video management sub-system, user management sub-system, system management sub-system, evaluation management sub-system, login module, VOD module, video search module and so on. Besides, we propose system working process and show the design of partial database.3. In system realization aspect, we propose detailed realization scheme for campus-based VOD system, and show function and interfaces, operation process and realization process for every sub-module, which will provide perfect service for users.The aim of the paper is to accelerate construction process of campus informatization, and mainly do research on system principle and realization process, which will promote computer network technologies'application in daily study and life. |
