The number of Chinese cell-netizens has reached356million, up till Jan.,2012. Nowadays, the ways people try to communicate are not limited to by calling or short message. They also use E-mails, VOIP, instant messengers, online interphones, SNS, these new communicating tools which are based on mobile internet. The essay analyses the using pattern of these communicating tools by the theory of uses and gratifications.The essay discusses the using requirements of cell phones, the characteristics of different communicating tools, the gratification pattern of using cell phones, and the characteristics of communicating by cell phones. The result shows that people tend to use cell phones to communicate based on the requirement of sociability, instrumentality, cost cut, entertainment and instant communication. Calling can satisfy people's needs of getting instant respond and fully conveying feelings; calling with a phone not paid by oneself can satisfy the need of cutting cost; calling cannot satisfy the need when people are not convenient to talk. Short messages can satisfy the needs of killing time, expressing implied and detailed emotions, sending holiday wishes and keeping a record. Using E-mails on cell phones can satisfy the needs of dealing with E-mails anywhere and sending files between different terminals, but it cannot satisfy the needs of managing E-mails at one place and sending long respond. Using VOIP on cell phones can satisfy the need of cutting cost, but it cannot satisfy the need of calling conveniently at a set place. Using instant messengers on cell phones can satisfy the needs of killing time, cutting cost, communicating special contacts and communicating conveniently. Using or not using online interphones can satisfy the need of group identification; using online interphones can satisfy the need of cutting cost, but cannot satisfy the need of communicating at anytime. Using SNS on cell phones can satisfy the needs of publishing instant status and communicating asynchronously.The essay then analyses the developing trends of the communicating tools on cell phones. The results shows that the amount of users using the new communicating tools based on mobile internet are increasing gradually. Respectively, the use of short messages is decreasing. From the perspective of communicating characteristics, the privacy and obsessive-compulsive of communicating by cell phones are weakening. The essay also points out that two psychological factors influence the popularization of new communicating tools on cell phones, which are the fear for the new and the gratification brought by using non-smart phones. At last, the essay predict the developing trend of communicating tools on cell phones, pointing out that the future communicating tools of cell phones will carry the characteristics of platform, easy to use, real identification and variety.
