| News commentary has been a powerful weapon among the media since the ancient time. With the change of social structure of our country in the new era, competing interests among the media promote the news commentary and study in our country to be flourishing as never before.Since the first issue of China News Weekly in 2000, it has displayed its advantages in the way of in-depth reporting based on its own judgement, thoughtfulness. It equips itself with distinguished feature, which makes a strong impression on the market of China's news periodicals.The periodical is concerned with the commentary of politics, economy, society, culture, etc. It embodies the concept of relying on the people from the aspects of materials collecting, viewpoints elaborating and angles considering. It fully focuses on the feelings, the opinions, the livelihood and the interests of the people. It starts with the people, reflecting the topics people concern most. It characterizes itself with interpreting, judgement constructive and suggestive.In the later twentieth century, semiotics as an objective and neutral subject has been penetrated with a variety of studies of different domains, especially it is relevant to Communication Study and Journalism. By means of discourse analysis of semiotics, the commentary in China News Weekly has been studied so as to make the concept of relying on the people the commentary ideology, which will help people in social practice participating, news events explaining and understanding, news writing, etc.This thesis consists of five chapters. Based on the theory of discourse analysis, it analyzes the news commentary in China News Weekly from the angle of textual frames, textual utterance, and textual cognition. It elaborates how the concept of relying on the people will be delivered, broadcasted and perceived, and its enlightenment on hands-on practice in the current periodicals. |
