Driving simulator is the equipment for simulating the driving action and giving a real driving feeling. According to the different functions, the driving simulator can be divided into 2 types:the driving simulator for training and the driving simulator for development. As an important part of the driving simulator, the steering wheel simulation system is mainly used for operation signal acquisition and simulation of steering resistance. The realistic steering resistance can not only enhance the fidelity and immersion, but also improve the accuracy of operation. Therefore, it has a great practical significance for researching the steering resistance simulation system. In this paper, combining with the driving simulator's characteristic of real-time and interaction, this paper mainly did some research on the real-time steering resistance simulation.In chapter 1, the subject background and the significance of the research was discussed, the system components and the research status of the driving simulator were introduced. The main content and the arrangement of the chapters in this paper were then given.In chapter 2, according to the functional requirements for the steering wheel simulation system, the simulation mechanism was designed. The data acquisition and control boards were used to realize the operation signal acquisition and data communication.In chapter 3, analyzed the steering resistance in a real vehicle, the tire model and the vehicle mathematical model were established to analyzed the forces of the steering system in a real vehicle, and the computational model of steering resistance which can accurately reflect the driving status information and the pavement condition information was established finally.In chapter 4, according to the driving simulator's characteristic of real-time and interaction, used the multi-body dynamics software Vortex to established the vehicle dynamic model for real-time simulation and used the software Creator to create the virtual terrain for the driving simulation. Set the properties between tire and various terrains to realize the different incentives for tire.In chapter 5, the dynamic simulation program was developed, and the integrated test was then taken. Analyzed the aligning torque in different driving speed conditions and the parameter values were determined. In chapter 6, the work contents were reviewed and summarized, and some tentative ideas and prospected for the possible research in future is presented.
