With the development of China's highway construction and the surge in car ownership, traffic accidents rate is rising rapidly. It results in heavy casualties and economic losse and attracts the universal attention of the society. In order to ensure the safety of vehicles, vehicle and forward vehicle distance detection and speed rate based on computer vision is very practical. However, studies in front of the vehicle speed and distance measurement method must first be identified on the front of the vehicle.So, this paper presents a monocular vision based on an improved method of identification in front of cars, further introduce a method of vehicle and forward vehicle distance detection and speed rate. Research results are as follows:1. For vehicle indentification, an improved video-based vehicle detection and identification methods. Compared with some of the existing methods, this method is its ability to improve the accuracy of vehicle detection and real-time.2.For the front of the vehicle distance measurement, an improved video-based real-time vehicle distance detection method, this method can improve the video distance detection accuracy and real-time.3. For the front of the vehicle speed measurement, an improved video-based real-time vehicle speed detection method, this method can improve the video speed detection accuracy and real-time.4. Based on VC++6.0software programming platform, by calling the open source computer vision library OpenCV's API, Using C, C++programming language developed in front of the vehicle identification and vehicle speed ranging system software.5. In the actual vehicle on the highway are shooting still images and video before, the use of good software development system for static images and video in front of the vehicle identification and vehicle speed ranging experiments and record experimental data, the analysis of experimental data obtains experimental results.Finally in the conclusions of the whole paper based on the speed of cars, the detection of future work is prospected.
