Display technology provides visual information to people, its appearance riches people's lives and improves work efficiency. Nowadays, the2D Display technology is very mature, so researchers will focus on3D display. Compared with2D Display,3D display technology can provide depth information which is in comformity with the constitution of the real world. So, it will be bound to be widely used in the field of military, virtual manufacturing, medical, space exploration and so on.This paper aims to the research of3D display engine based on volumetric scanning techenique.Firstly, the existing3D technologies were analyseed and comparied, and their advantages and disadvantages were comfirmed. On this basis, the volumetric scanning techenique was put forward, and the necessity of the design of a new-type and practical3D display engine was expounded. Secondly, the principles of volumetric scanning techenique were stated, and according to the principles, the mechanical and circuit structure were designed. About the circuit, the entire system was hierarchically designed. Thirdly, the realization of hardware design of the engine was discussed detailedly. The synchronization control and data broadcasting layer was finished with STM32, W5100and power line carrier communication.The distributed processing VGPU whose function is storing, processing and transmitting3D datas was finished with STM32, FIFO and FPGA. The design of LED board whose adjacent LED's space is2.4mm and its driver was finished with FPGA and RGB-LED. Finally, the direction of future research, system integrated, was proposed.This article solves the key technical problems of photoelectric synchronization, storing, processing and transmtting3D data, high-resolution colorful LED screen and its drivers in the3D display engine. And the machinery and circuits both meet the system requirements. It laid a solid foundation for the follow-up system integration.
