| The Chinese IDC (Internet Date Center)started in 1999. With its rapid development, in only a few years, a large number of IDC service providers are in operation. However, the year 2008 and 2009 could be considered as a watershed in the history of IDC: large-scale governmental rectification and readjustment, higher standards occasioned by telecommunication reorganization and the impact of financial crisis all contribute to the burst of this bubble. In such circumstances, what measures should be taken to ensure the healthy development of IDC industry, especially to ensure the improvement of the project management in the infrastructure of IDC industry? This thesis commences with the general introduction of project management in Chinese IDC industry, with special focus on how the infrastructure of the young Chinese IDC industry would adapt the advanced project management notions, or in other words, how a project management notion with Chinese characteristics would be instituted with the current condition of our country in consideration. Nevertheless, the project management of Chinese IDC infrastructure is still developing, mostly relies on the project management model of a single project (eg. civil engineering), which fails to deal with the characteristics of multi-system and diversity of IDC infrastructure. This thesis applies the PMI project management theory to the case study of the IDC construction project in 21vianet Xi'an Economic Development Zone, the project of which is managed by the thesis writer. The project is in steady progress because of the thesis writer's allocation of work, refinement of the management process and the utilization of other management methods. Nevertheless, this project is not without its own problems. The end of this thesis is dedicated to analyze the causes of these problems so as to propose the concrete measures needed for improvement.Although Chinese IDC project schedule management could borrow from the foreign advanced project management methods, it is imperative to integrate these methods with the specific conditions of China so as to cope with the challenges facing the rapidly developing IDC infrastructure. |
