| Since the the beginning of 1990s, religious tourism in China experiences a rapiddevelopment and acts as a very important force for promoting the development ofChina's tourism industry. However, for various reasons, domestic religious tourism alsoexperiences some phenomenon of alienation that badly affects the sustainabledevelopment of Chinese tourism when they are not correctly resolved in time. Given thereality that domestic researchers have not specially researched on this issue, this paper tryto discuss phenomenon of alienation of domestic religious tourism from the angle ofstakeholders. This paper is divided into five parts as followed:The first part is an introduction, including the significance of the paper, the relevantresearch about religious tourism, tourism stakeholders as well as tourism alienation atdomestic and abroad. Besides, this part defines some important concepts in this article,such as religious tourism, stakeholders and religious tourism alienation.The second part is mainly to identify domestic religious tourism stakeholders whichare classified into three categories, namely, core stakeholders, key stakeholders andexternal stakeholders according to their importance. In this part, core stakeholders(religious tourists, tourism enterprises, governments, local communities) and keystakeholders (academics and experts, the media, religious-related people, industrialassociations) were analyzed.The third part mainly focuses on the phenomenon of religious tourism alienationfrom the perspective of stakeholders. The performance of religious tourism alienationincludes the religious tourism development, management, behaviors of religious tourists,religious tourism research, commercialization and alienation of religious culture. Bothmacro and micro factors related to the cause of alienation of religious tourism arediscussed, such as the alienation of secular religion, traditional religious ideas, religioustourism development and business model, the relevant departments of the managementsystem, consumer psychology and behavior of tourists, et al.The fourth part put forward seven solutions that could deal with the alienation ofdomestic religious from the perspective of tourism legislation, government functions,industry management, media, tourism, education, tourism research, communityparticipation.The fifth part is the conclusion, including the main conclusions that are summarizedfrom this paper, and concluding some of the inadequacy of this paper and finally giving some suggestions on the future research. |
