An Analysis Of The Implementation Status And Problems Of The Star Rating Criteria

As the guidance of the hotel industry, the Star Rating Criteria has its special position and significance. Although the Star Rating Criteria has been revised three times since implemented in 1988, some problems and limitation came up in the process of implementation. Therefore, this is a significant issue for all the hotels in China to consider how to modify the Star Rating Criteria to meet the development of hotel industry, with the main purpose of promoting the development of hotel eventually. This essay focuses on the case study of luxury hotels in Changsha. The study starts from scores evaluation by hotel associates, then demonstrates the problems and limitations of the Star Criteriapractice in implementation, as well as makes suggestions based on the analysis.This thesis covers five parts. Part 1 is a brief introduction to the study background, study purpose and significance, and defines the study scope and terms. Meanwhile, it addresses the expected study outcome and limitations. Part 2 is a comprehensive demonstration and discussion on the related theories of the Star Rating Criteria both at home and abroad, then draw on some excellent experience overseas. Part 3 is description of general idea, sets up the framework of the relationship between scores evaluation by hotel associates and the Star Rating Criteria in implementation, establishes the relative hypothesis and designs the questionnaire. Make sure that the analysis will be done based on the questionnaire's reliability and validity. Part 4 is the empirical study on the problems and limitation when the Star Rating Criteria is implemented based on the data collected from the questionnaires. Statistics methods analysis is used in this part to study the questionnaire data. Part 5 is a summary of the study outcome of this essay and makes suggestions for revising and improving the Star Rating Criteria. In the end, the author discusses the limitation of the study as well as the directions of follow-up studies.The author hopes that this thesis can provide effective theoretical reference and way of thinking for modification the Star Rating Criteria for luxury hotels.
