Taxonomy And Distribution Of Oniscidea (Crustacea: Isopoda) From Shanxi Province

Oniscidea is the only completely adapted to the land of theliving animals in 10 suborders of Crustacea Isopoda. They areherbivorous terrestrial Isopoda groups, the number is half ofIsopoda, Oniscidea is important component in soil faunas. Becausethe type of Oniscidea is huge and distribution is wide, comparedwith the study in foreign courtries, the research of Oniscidea in ourcountry is little, especially in Shanxi Province is limited to thereport Xinzhou Luya mountain of Chen Guoxiao scholar; Oniscideacan decompose leaf litter; concentrate the environment of heavymetal and repair the polluted soil; and it is an important medicine.Hence it is vital to research terrestrial Isopoda taxonomy of ShanxiProvince.The materials of this paper are collected in Shanxi Province forthe past year, collecting sites includes 11 cities and 15 counties inShanxi Province. Through the collections and investigations of theseveral times, we gain a lot of specimens. This paper used thetraditional morphology taxonomic methods, under the stereomicroscope observe and identify all speciemens, and takephotographs to the identified speciemens. Among the 10 suborders of Isopoda, the suborder Oniscidea isthe largest group, which comprises 4838 described species,currently assigned to 526 genera in 38 families. The present studydeals with the terrestrial isopoda fauna of Shanxi Province. Elevenspecies belonging to six genera in three families are described.Among them, two species are indeterminate, and three species arefirst recorded in Shanxi Province. Description and figures of thespecimens of every species are given. Characteristics of familiesand genera are summarized. Keys to species and genera are given.Chinese name of known species are revised and distributions of the11 species are discussed.
