Since the advent of photonic crystal in1980s, it has aroused great interests in people.Photonic crystal is a kind of artificial dielectric materials whose dielectric constant changes periodically.It has two important features which are photonic band gap and photon localization.Photonic crystal micro-cavity will be constructed if we introduce a point defect in complete photonic crystal,and waveguide will be constructed if we introduce liner defect.Photonic crystal waveguide can effectively control the propagation of light, which has a bright future in communication industry and optoelectronic integrated industry.In the first part of this paper,I briefly introduced the characteristics of photonic crystal and its application.In the second part,I introduced the two important methods computing and stimulating photonic crystal:plane wave expansion method and finite-difference time-domain method.The third part is the main body of this paper.I designed three kinds of waveguides,a straight waveguide and a bend waveguide in the photonic crystal of square lattice,a60°waveguide in the photonic crystal of triangle lattice.I studied their propagation features and proved that photonic crystal waveguide has very high propagation efficiency compared to traditional waveguide. In the last chapter of this paper,I introduced a defect in1D photonic crystal,which means that it has a micro-cavity, computed and analysed the transmission efficiency of resonance mode caused by the crystal cylinder’s shape and dielectric constant in the micro-cavity.
