Remote sensing data and GIS tools are relatively new and highly valuable for study oftectonic movements..This paper examines the effectively of the use of remote sensingdatatodetecthorizontalandverticalchangesontheplatetectonicinstudyarea.Remote sensing technique was used to study Neotectonics of Wenchuan area. The latterhasbeenoneoftheseismicallyactiveregions.Theoccurrencesofearthquakesaremostlycontrolledbyactivefaults.This study mainly for understanding and grasp the direction and Mechanism of platemovements, the effect of plate movements on the rivers network view for a period40years.Thesatellitesimageswerebeusedfrom1974-1976landsat1,1989-1996landsat(4,5),1999-2005land sat-7, Google earth images2005-2008after earth quake(Wenchuan12may2008), Geomorphic features are extracted from the Shuttle RadarTopography Mission (SRTM) DEM data2002and2010, Google earth digital elevationimages.SRTM DEM and Land sat data are used to extract the geomorphometric Features andstructures. The relationship between the topography and tectonics is assessed tounderstandtheevolutionmodel.Usetherivernetworktodeduceareasofspacers betweenplates aswellas inthestudyofthedirectionofplatemovementbyusingremotesensingtechnique. It also shows the effect of sliding rocks on the slopes caused by the earthquake on thewideofriver.
