| There are mainly two extra dimensional theories, one is the Kaluza-Klein theory (K-K), the other is the Randall-Sundrum model (R-S), both of which are based on the geometrical properties of space-time structure. In this dissertation, a new mechanism of extra dimension is given based on the physical property of quantum theory. In fact, this mechanism supports to be suitable for both the time and space dimensions, which is discussed in details in chapter2and3, after a brief introduction to the K-K and R-S. In chapter2, we construct a field model and obtain the Schrodinger equation with a new meaning as a classical field equation. In chapter3, we develop the new mechanism of extra dimension by constructing field models for scalar, tachyon and gravitational fields, and explain this new picture of extra dimension. Finally, all the results are summarized in chapter4. In addition, we make further discussions in an appendix, on the new meaning of quantum theory demonstrated in chapter2, especially the quantum measurement theory. |
