Stability of slopes under earthquake-action has become the hot research issues bygeotechnical engineering science.Loess slope in Badong county of Hubei province is a majorgeological disaster carrier in three-gorge reservoir and1andslides on it is also among the mostserious ones. In this paper, an analysis on stability of loess slope was developed byadopting the method of scenario earthquake.In procedure of this research, the work which had been done was as the following:(1)Introducing the geological situation in landslide area of loess slope and its basiccharacteristics.Landslide here is a compound deformation of various slides, such as slides ofamassers laid aside the river, the substation, the garden and the inferior ones.(2)Putting forward a studying method to scenario earthquake baresearching based on theanalysis of research achievements in this field all over the world.(3)Undertaking an time-history analysis on the stability of loess slope under naturalcondition by the method of the plane figure simulation analysis.(4) Comparing and analyzing results of the stability calculation under the action of tectonicearthquake and reservoir induced earthquake to evaluate the seismic risk of Huangtupo landslide.The major innovations were presented here:(1) studying the earthquakes happened in in three-gorge reservoir area which were inducedby reservoir and working out a method to define scenario earthquake of this sort.(2) Comparing and analyzing the evaluation results of the stability calculation under actionsof tectonic earthquake and reservoir induced earthquake.From what we discussed, it was safe to come to the following conclusions:The results show that characteristics of the time history of safety factor of the landslide isbroadly apparent on the condition of scenario earthquake. Locations near the main active faultsin the research area exists the risk of occurring tectonic earthquakes which may cause the failureof the landslide and areas near Gaoqiao, Zhoujiashan-Niukou exists the risk of occurringreservoir induced earthquakes which may cause the failure of loess slope.
