Surface electromagnetic wave is a wave located or leaded on the interface of two kinds of medium, propagating along the interface. It has so many potential applications in a lot of fields, such as:light stimulate, optical waveguide, data storage, microscopy techniques and so on. In recent years, with the rapid development of LHM, an emerging artificial material, the study of surface wave on LHM has attracted more and more researchers’ attention.At present, it has been reported about the study of surface wave exists on a single surfaces of LHM. Based on the research background of my group and research status of surface wave on LHM, a symmetrical three layer surface system is studied, in which RLM, LHM and Negative Dielectric Permittivity Material (NDPM) are introduced. Through calculation and simulation, the paper is made mainly as follows:1, the symmetrical three layer surface system is divided concretely into four structures:R-L-R, NDPM-L-NDPM, R-NDPM-R and L-NDPM-L, discussed and analyzed in chapter three and four. In each one structure, the dispersion relation curve of the electromagnetic wave exists on the two surfaces is obtained and compared with that on a single surface. Found that:there exist two branches in dispersion curve of symmetrical three layers structure, which distribute two sides of that in a single surface, in the corresponding polarization. It shows that surface waves exits on two interface of the structure interact each other.2, By using Attenuated Total Reflection technology (ATR) and transfer matrix method, ATR spectrum is obtained, in which absorption peak will be marked in the dispersion curve, through the fitting degree with dispersion curve, it may presents the existence of surface wave. It’s found that:the fitting degree of marks denoted in dispersion figure corresponding to absorption peaks of ATR spectrum and dispersion curve is so well, which meets the phase matching condition, and presents the existence of surface waves.3, it mainly calculates and analyzes the influence of various parameters such as: incidence angles, the core layer thickness, on ATR spectrum. Some laws can be found, such as:polarization type in different structure may be different. There is obvious influence of incident angles to absorption peaks’location, the core layer thickness to the value of peaks, and so on, which will provide certain theoretical guidance for experimental observation of electromagnetic wave.
